Museion – Modern and contemporary arts museum
„Museion“ is the new modern and contemporary arts museum in Bolzano, South Tyrol’s main city. Opened in May 2008, the Museion has a regular rotation of exhibitions of works from the fifties till the present day. From the very beginning the Museion has been hosting significant works by the likes of Andy Warhol, Joseph Beuys and Man Ray.
The Museion addresses the important relationship between art and words and it acts as an important interface between Italian and German cultural environments. The museum is symbolically located on the border between the city’s more recent developments, which follow typical Italian layouts, and the historic centre, where the German tradition is predominant.
Designed by a Berlin based architect, the building’s glass façade is marvellously lit at night and occasionally used for artistic visual projections.
The Museion has dedicated children sections with activities and a ‘caterpillar’ area where the worm-like structure becomes a pedagogic tool to disclose the world of modern arts to children in a fun and entertaining way.
